Cataracts occur when the lens inside your eye becomes increasingly opaque and cloudy resulting in 'foggy' vision. Cataracts are usually an age-related condition but may occur in younger age groups.

If you have a cataract, your vision will become blurry, colours may appear duller, and you may be more sensitive to glare. In the early stages, glasses may improve your vision however as the cataract worsens, glasses will no longer offer any improvement.

In most cases cataracts can be helped by cataract surgery. Cataract surgery involves removing the cloudy lens inside the eye and replacing it with an artificial clear lens. The implanted lens will have a prescription that is normally set to match your distance vision prescription, however there are also multifocal and reading implant options available.

To have cataract surgery you would need to be referred to an eye specialist.
