OrthokeratologyNo glasses - No daytime contacts - No surgery - Just great vision!Orthokeratology (orthoK) is a non-surgical procedure that reshapes the cornea (front surface of your eye) using specially designed contact lenses that are worn whilst you sleep. OrthoK works for low to moderate myopia (short sight) and low amounts of astigmatism. Orthok lenses are only worn at night while you sleep, during the day your vision is normal without the need for any contact lenses or glasses. OrthoK is known by several different names, Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT), Revise, Dream Lens, to name a few. Prevent short sight getting worseResearch has also shown that OrthoK can help to slow down or halt the progression of myopia in children. Studies show myopia prevention with Orthok is effective until the age of 18. However Orthok lenses can still be used after the age of 18 and also in adults. Is orthok safe?OrthoK is a safe and reversible procedure. It was first approved by the USA Food and Drug Administration in 2002. All contact lens wear has a small risk of serious eye infections and so does OrthoK lens wear. In the unlikely event of an infection, we can normally treat this successfully with anti-biotic eye drops. The risk of infection can be greatly reduced by following your cleaning and lens care instructions meticulously, and attending the necessary follow up visits.
